Kit 72082 puts the spotlight on the ground support that made flying operations possible.

Historical background

The Bedford QL family entered production in 1941 as a British three-ton, four-wheel-drive military truck. Its distinctive forward-control cab and adaptable chassis formed the basis for cargo vehicles and a range of specialist versions.

Refuelling vehicles adapted this practical platform to the needs of airfield operations. Carrying fuel and equipment for transferring it to aircraft, they helped ground crews prepare machines for their next sortie. Their work was part of a wider routine of inspection, servicing, replenishment and preparation that continued between flights.

Unlike a general fuel-supply truck, an aircraft refueller’s role centred on delivering fuel to the aircraft itself. Vehicles such as the Bedford QL were therefore an essential part of the airfield landscape, linking the fuel supply with the machines waiting to fly. They tell the story of the ground crews whose work supported every operational departure.

Model details

Manufacturer: IBG

Scale: 1/72

Subject: Bedford QL Refueller

Nationality: British

Period: Second World War

Role: aircraft refuelling and airfield support

Kit number: 72082

Add a specialist Bedford to your military vehicle collection, or place it alongside a 1/72 aircraft to create an airfield servicing scene.
