The P-40B is the Tomahawk of the shark-mouthed Flying Tigers and of Pearl Harbor's few airborne defenders. It could not climb or turn with its Japanese opponents, so its pilots learned to dive on them and keep going, a tactic that turned a merely adequate fighter into an effective one. Tough, simple and available in numbers when almost nothing else was, it served with the USAAF, RAF and AVG alike.
