It was a PBY Catalina crew that first spotted the Japanese fleet approaching Midway on the morning of 4 June 1942, one of the most consequential sightings in naval history. The PBY-5A amphibious variant added retractable landing gear for shore operations alongside the flying boat role. Academy's 1/72 scale kit commemorates the 80th anniversary of the battle with authentic markings for the period, capturing the Catalina's distinctive twin-engine, parasol-wing layout. A historically significant subject with a well-earned place in any Pacific War aviation collection.
