Explore the supply link between ship and shore with the Airfix 1/48 Fairey Gannet COD.4, kit A11009. This distinctive Fleet Air Arm aircraft brought mail, essential spare parts and passengers to Royal Navy carriers, offering a different story from the Gannet's original anti-submarine role.
COD stands for Carrier Onboard Delivery. Six existing AS.4 airframes were converted for this transport task, with radar equipment removed and the weapons bay adapted for stores and additional fuel. These hard-working aircraft became a welcome sight to ships' companies waiting for supplies and news from home.
This Airfix release includes new parts for the COD.4 variant and three marking schemes. Among the featured subjects are aircraft associated with HMS Hermes and HMS Ark Royal, making the kit an appealing addition to a Cold War naval aviation collection.
In 1/48 scale, the Gannet provides a substantial subject for a Fleet Air Arm display and a companion to carrier-based jets of the same period. Manufacturer: Airfix; kit reference: A11009. This plastic model requires assembly and painting, with glue and paints required separately.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Unless otherwise stated these models will need some construction and painting. Glues and paints are not included.
