Despite Japan's modernising military ambitions, the Imperial Japanese Army remained heavily dependent on horse-drawn transport throughout World War II — particularly in China and the Pacific, where road infrastructure was limited and motorised logistics were scarce. The Type 39 Transport Cart Ko was a standard wooden-wheeled cargo cart used across all theatres to move ammunition, supplies, and equipment.
