The PACV (Patrol Air Cushion Vehicle) — based on the Bell SK-5 commercial hovercraft — was evaluated by the US Navy and Army during the Vietnam War as a means of patrolling the Mekong Delta's shallow waterways, rice paddies, and mangrove swamps that conventional patrol boats couldn't access. Three PACVs were deployed operationally in 1966–68 with mixed results — fast and capable on water and marshy ground, but noisy, fuel-hungry, and difficult to conceal. The late production version incorporated operational improvements from early service experience. This Gecko Models 1/35 kit (35GM0101) is one of the few kits of this fascinating and unusual Vietnam War subject.
