The Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant was the largest land-based transport aircraft of World War II — a powered development of the enormous Me 321 glider, fitted with six French Gnome-Rhône radial engines to make it self-propelled. With a payload of up to 12 tonnes, it could carry a complete Panzer IV tank, heavy artillery, or over 100 troops. The D-1 variant introduced more powerful engines and improved performance. Used extensively on the Eastern Front and in the Mediterranean to supply North Africa, the Gigant suffered catastrophic losses to Allied fighters, including the destruction of 14 in a single interception over the Sicilian Channel in April 1943. This Great Wall Hobby 1/144 kit (L1006) is one of the very few kits of this extraordinary aircraft.
