The Aichi D3A1 'Val' holds a grim distinction in history — it was the Japanese dive bomber that led the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, and it went on to sink more Allied warships than any other Axis aircraft during the Second World War. Operated from the decks of the Kido Butai's fleet carriers, the D3A1 Model 11 was the primary variant in service during the opening phase of the Pacific War, with its fixed spatted undercarriage, fixed-pitch propeller, and prominent dive brakes giving it a very distinctive silhouette. This Hasegawa 1/48 kit captures the Val in excellent detail with a well-appointed cockpit, accurate airframe mouldings, and decals for IJN carrier markings.
