The Grumman S-2 Tracker was the US Navy's primary carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft of the Cold War — a twin-engined, high-wing monoplane that could both hunt and kill submarines in a single airframe, replacing the earlier two-aircraft hunter-killer teams. It served with numerous allied navies around the world, including the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force, where it flew with the 11th Fleet Air Squadron in the coastal patrol and ASW roles. The JMSDF markings on this Hasegawa 1/72 kit make it a distinctive and unusual choice compared to standard US Navy schemes, appealing to fans of post-war Japanese naval aviation and Cold War maritime subjects.
