The Supermarine Spitfire Mk XVI was essentially a Mk IX airframe fitted with the American-built Packard Merlin 266 engine, and the E-wing version carried two 20mm Hispano cannon and two .50 calibre Browning machine guns. Introduced in late 1944, it served with RAF Second Tactical Air Force in the final push into Germany and continued in RAF service well into the post-war period, including with several auxiliary squadrons into the early 1950s. This Heller/Humbrol 1/72 kit (80282) captures the late-war bubble canopy variant with clipped wings — the definitive low-altitude Spitfire look.
