The Aichi E16A1 Zuiun ("Auspicious Cloud") was designed as a successor to the E13A Jake floatplane, intended to give the Imperial Japanese Navy a faster and more capable reconnaissance and dive-bombing floatplane for catapult launch from cruisers and battleships. The early production variant featured distinctive twin floats and an elegantly tapered fuselage that belied its combat role. Hobby 2000's 1/72 scale kit presents the E16A1 in its initial configuration with authentic Japanese naval markings and the floatplane detail that makes this an intriguing and unusual build.
A rare subject that adds real depth to any Imperial Japanese Navy or Pacific theatre collection.
