By 1944 the original dive-bomber Stuka had long been superseded, but the Ju 87 G-2 found a devastating new purpose as an anti-tank aircraft on the Eastern Front, armed with twin underwing 37mm Flak 18 cannon capable of piercing the roof armour of Soviet tanks. Hans-Ulrich Rudel — the most decorated German serviceman of the war — flew the G-2 to extraordinary effect, claiming over 500 tank kills in this variant alone. Hobby 2000's 1/72 kit captures the G-2 in its distinctive late-war configuration with the imposing underwing cannon pods, Eastern Front camouflage, and the detail that Stuka specialists demand.
