The Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet was the world's first operational rocket-powered interceptor and the fastest aircraft of World War II, capable of nearly 960 km/h in level flight — a speed so extraordinary that Allied fighter pilots initially refused to believe their encounter reports. Powered by a Walter HWK 509 bi-fuel rocket motor burning a violently reactive propellant combination, the Komet was as dangerous to its own pilots as to the enemy, yet its pilots claimed over 300 Allied aircraft. Hobby 2000's 1/72 kit covers both the B production variant and the S two-seat trainer, with authentic Luftwaffe markings and the distinctive swept-wing, tailless silhouette that remains unlike any other aircraft of the era.
An unmissable subject for Luftwaffe and experimental aircraft specialists.
