The P-38M Night Lightning was a dedicated two-seat night fighter conversion of Lockheed's iconic twin-boom P-38, developed urgently in 1944 to counter Japanese night operations in the Pacific. Fitted with AN/APS-6 radar in a pod beneath the nose and a second cockpit for a radar operator, only 75 were completed before the war's end — making it one of the rarest and most intriguing USAAF variants. Hobby 2000's 1/72 kit captures this distinctive aircraft with the radar pod, tandem cockpit arrangement, and authentic Pacific theatre night fighter markings.
A rare and fascinating subject for twin-boom or Pacific War specialists.
