The Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.F2, quickly redesignated Ausf.G, represented a pivotal upgrade in German armour capability on the Eastern Front — the fitting of the long-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 40 L/43 gun that could finally engage the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 on equal or better terms at combat range. Arriving on the Eastern Front in 1942, these tanks helped restore German armoured superiority during the summer offensives.
