The Renault R35 was the most numerous French tank of 1940, with over 1,600 built and issued to infantry support units across the French Army. Designed as a replacement for the elderly FT-17, it was well-armoured for its size but slow, with a one-man turret mounting a short 37mm gun that limited its effectiveness against German armour. After the Fall of France, captured R35s were used extensively by Germany (as the Panzerkampfwagen 35R 731(f)), Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and other Axis-aligned nations, and some served with the Free French and in colonial theatres. This HobbyBoss 1/35 kit (83806) is a welcome representation of this ubiquitous but often overlooked French tank.
