The VK 3001(P) was Ferdinand Porsche's submission for the German Army's 30-tonne medium tank competition of 1941, competing against designs from Henschel and Daimler-Benz. Porsche's design featured an unusual petro-electric drive system where two Porsche air-cooled engines drove electric motors, a system that proved unreliable under operational conditions. Although the VK 3001(P) was not accepted for production, Porsche's subsequent VK 4501(P) — using a similar drive system — lost the Tiger competition to Henschel but had its hulls repurposed as the Ferdinand/Elefant tank destroyer. The VK 3001(P) remains a fascinating and rarely modelled German prototype. This HobbyBoss 1/35 kit (83891) is one of very few available representations.
