The Jagdtiger (Sd.Kfz.186) was the heaviest armoured fighting vehicle to enter production in World War II, weighing 71.7 tonnes and protected by 250mm of frontal armour that was effectively immune to any Allied anti-tank gun at combat ranges. Armed with the 128mm PaK 44 L/55 gun — capable of destroying any Allied tank at ranges exceeding 2,500 metres — it was devastatingly powerful but mechanically unreliable and strategically irrelevant given the small numbers produced. Only 88 were completed, serving with schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 512 and 653 in the final defence of Germany in 1945. The Henschel-suspension production variant used standard torsion bar suspension rather than the Porsche overlapping wheel system of earlier vehicles.
