The USS Iowa (BB-61) was the lead ship of America's last and greatest class of battleships, commissioned in 1943 and serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres of World War II. At 270 metres long and displacing over 45,000 tons, the Iowa-class ships combined unprecedented speed — 33 knots — with nine 16-inch guns capable of hurling 1,225kg shells over 38 kilometres. Iowa carried President Roosevelt to the Tehran Conference in 1943. She was reactivated during the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Cold War, finally being decommissioned in 1990 and preserved as a museum ship in Los Angeles. This HobbyBoss 1/350 kit (86517) captures this iconic and imposing warship.
