The KV-1 Model 1942 Lightweight Cast variant was a deliberate attempt to reduce the KV-1's excessive weight by using a new, thinner cast turret, simplifying the hull construction, and removing some of the appliqué armour added during 1941. The reduction in weight improved mobility and reliability, but the thinner armour increased vulnerability. It represented an engineering compromise as Soviet designers balanced protection against the need for a more operationally capable heavy tank. This HobbyBoss 1/48 kit (84814) captures this specific 1942 lightweight cast hull variant, a point of precision for Eastern Front armour specialists.
