The KV-2 was the Soviet Union's most extreme tank of the early war period — a KV-1 hull fitted with a massive box-shaped turret mounting a 152mm howitzer intended for the direct fire destruction of fortifications. Its enormous height, great weight, and the need to traverse the turret on level ground made it operationally cumbersome, but when working it was terrifying to German troops who had no weapon capable of penetrating its armour at combat ranges in 1941. Most were lost to mechanical failure, fuel shortages, or being abandoned in the chaotic retreat of 1941 rather than to enemy fire. This HobbyBoss 1/48 kit (84816) captures this iconic and distinctive behemoth.
