The M4A1(76)W combined the original cast-hull M4A1 with the 76mm M1A2 gun and wet ammo stowage, providing a significant firepower upgrade while retaining the rounded cast hull that distinguishes the M4A1 from welded-hull Shermans. Cast-hull Shermans were generally preferred by crews for their absence of weld seam weak points. The 76mm-armed Shermans were rushed to Europe after the shock of encountering Panthers in Normandy, and the M4A1(76)W served in large numbers through the battles of late 1944 and 1945. This HobbyBoss 1/48 kit (84801) captures this important late-war Sherman variant.
