The B-24D was the first major production variant of the Consolidated Liberator to see large-scale combat service, entering operations in 1942 with the USAAF's Ninth Air Force in the Middle East and the Eighth Air Force in Britain. The D model is perhaps most associated with Operation Tidal Wave — the devastating low-level raid on the Ploiești oil refineries in Romania on 1 August 1943, during which five Medals of Honor were awarded, more than in any other single American military action. This HobbyBoss 1/48 kit (81775) captures the B-24D in this historically significant early configuration.
