Captured British vehicles were a significant component of German logistics throughout the war, and the Bedford MW was among the most numerous British trucks to fall into German hands — particularly during the fall of France in 1940 and the early North Africa campaign. German forces pressed these vehicles into service with Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe ground units, often retaining British markings with only a hasty Balkenkreuz added, and they served alongside German transport until worn out. In German service the Bedford MW takes on an entirely different character, its familiar silhouette rendered exotic by Dunkelgelb paint and German unit markings — a compelling subject for modellers of captured equipment or German logistics.
The captured Bedford — a British truck serving its conquerors, with German markings and a fascinating backstory.
