The Bedford QL Fire Tender was one of the many specialist roles assigned to the versatile QL chassis, serving with RAF airfield fire services and Army fire units throughout the war and long into the post-war period. With its distinctive fire-fighting bodywork, hose reels, and equipment lockers, it presents a quite different appearance from the military transport variants and represents the QL in its civilian emergency service role — a refreshing change of colour and purpose within a predominantly olive-drab range. The Fire Tender is particularly associated with RAF station fire sections, making it a natural companion for any wartime airfield diorama.
