The Centaur AA mounted twin 20mm Polsten cannon in a purpose-designed open-topped turret, providing armoured formations with dedicated anti-aircraft protection during the Normandy campaign and beyond. The Polsten was a simplified, lighter version of the Oerlikon cannon, and the twin mounting gave the Centaur AA a formidable short-range capability against low-flying aircraft and ground targets alike. Though Luftwaffe activity over Normandy proved less intensive than feared, the Centaur AA's presence in armoured regiments helped deter air attack and contributed to the air superiority that Allied forces maintained throughout the campaign. An unusual and eye-catching variant with its distinctive twin-cannon open turret.
