The Carro Comando was the command tank variant of the M13/40, with the main gun removed and the space used for additional radio equipment that allowed unit commanders to communicate with their superior headquarters and subordinate vehicles. In its place, additional 8mm machine guns were fitted for local defence. Command tanks were essential for controlling Italian armoured operations, and the Carro Comando's distinctive antenna arrangement and modified turret make it an immediately recognisable variant within the M13/40 family. For modellers building a complete Italian armoured unit, the command tank is the essential piece that pulls a formation display together.
