The Daimler Armoured Car in its Close Support configuration replaced the 2-pounder gun with a 3-inch howitzer, mirroring the close support tank concept applied across British armoured formations where a proportion of vehicles carried howitzers for direct HE and smoke fire rather than armour-piercing rounds. The CS Daimler supported the gun-armed cars in the same reconnaissance regiments, available to lay smoke screens, suppress enemy positions with HE, and provide the kind of fire support that the 2-pounder's AP-only ammunition couldn't deliver. A specialist variant that completes the picture of how British reconnaissance regiments were equipped and how they fought.
