The Diamond T 696 was a heavier-duty wrecker than the 969, capable of recovering larger and heavier vehicles including tanks and artillery pieces that exceeded the 969's capacity. In the softcab configuration it presents a different visual character from the hardcab wrecker, and the 696's more powerful recovery equipment is reflected in the more substantial boom and winch arrangement. Heavy wreckers were essential for any armoured formation that expected to take casualties among its tanks, and the 696 was among the most capable recovery vehicles the Allies operated. A serious piece of military engineering equipment rendered in faithful 1/72 scale.
