The Scammell Pioneer R100 Artillery Tractor was the standard prime mover for Britain's heaviest artillery pieces — the massive guns that required the Pioneer's extraordinary pulling power to move across the mud and rough terrain of the battlefield. Where conventional artillery tractors could manage medium guns, the Pioneer hauled the 7.2-inch howitzers and other heavy pieces that provided the Allies with deep fire support. The artillery tractor variant without trailer has its own distinctive character — the absence of a load exposing the Pioneer's impressive frame and equipment in full. An essential piece for anyone modelling British heavy artillery units.
