The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I is where the legend begins — the original production variant that entered service with the RAF in 1938 and fought in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain with its distinctive narrow-chord propeller, rounded wingtips, and Merlin II or III engine. The early Mk.I has a purity of line and an elegance that later, more capable variants sacrificed in the pursuit of performance, and for many it represents the Spitfire at its most beautiful. IBG's kit, titled "Beginning of the Saga", captures the aircraft at this formative moment with the markings options and detail appropriate to the 1939–1940 period when the Spitfire's reputation was being established in combat.
The Spitfire where it all began — the early Mk.I at the moment the legend was born.
