The Toldi IIa was an improved version of Hungary's standard light tank, with uparmoured hull protection and revised details addressing the combat experience gained on the Eastern Front. It served alongside the Toldi I in Hungarian armoured units, and the two variants equipped the cavalry and motorised units that Hungary committed to the Barbarossa campaign and subsequent fighting around the Don bend in 1942–43. The subtle differences between Toldi I and IIa are exactly the kind of variant accuracy that IBG specialises in, and the two kits together provide a comprehensive picture of Hungary's most important light tank in its operational development.
