The Flak 38-armed Maultier converted the halftrack chassis into a mobile anti-aircraft platform, mounting the 20mm Flak 38 autocannon on a modified cargo bed to provide self-propelled air defence for column and position protection. The 20mm Flak 38 was an effective short-range weapon against low-flying aircraft and could also be used against ground targets, making the armed Maultier a versatile fighting vehicle as well as a carrier. The Flak mounting gives this variant a dramatically different and more aggressive appearance than the cargo Maultiers, and the open gun platform creates excellent modelling opportunities for figures and detailed equipment work.
