The Fiat CR.42 in Luftwaffe ground attack service is one of the more remarkable anomalies of the Second World War — Germany operating an Italian biplane for front-line ground attack duties at a time when the Luftwaffe was otherwise flying the most advanced monoplane combat aircraft in the world. Used by the Störkampfstafeln on the Eastern Front for night harassment bombing, the CR.42 LW proved effective in a role where its slow speed, quiet engine, and ability to operate from rough forward strips were advantages rather than liabilities. ICM's 1/32 kit in the ground attack configuration, without figures, allows the builder to focus on the aircraft itself in all the detail that this large scale provides.
