Ukraine has become the most heavily mined country in the world as a result of the ongoing war — Russian forces have laid mines on an industrial scale across vast areas of Ukrainian territory, contaminating farmland, roads, forests, and residential areas in a way that will pose a lethal hazard to civilians for decades after the fighting ends. ICM's figure set captures the grim reality of mine warning and demarcation — the soldiers, volunteers, and civilians marking and warning of mined areas in the summer of 2022 when the scale of the contamination was first becoming apparent.
