The Gotha Go 242B was the wheeled undercarriage variant of the Luftwaffe's standard assault glider, differing from the skid-equipped Go 242A in its ability to land on prepared surfaces and be towed away for reuse. Capable of carrying 21 troops or equivalent freight, the Go 242 served in the Crete operation, on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, and in resupply missions to isolated garrisons. ICM's 1/48 kit brings this large and imposing twin-boom glider to a scale where its unusual layout and considerable size can be appreciated, with the detail appropriate to a manufacturer that takes German Luftwaffe transport subjects seriously.
The Luftwaffe's wheeled glider — the Go 242B that could land, be recovered, and fly again.
