The Gotha Go 244 was the powered derivative of the Go 242 assault glider, fitted with two captured French Gnome-Rhône 14M radial engines to create a powered transport that could operate without a towing aircraft. The B-2 variant with its fixed undercarriage was used primarily in North Africa and on the Eastern Front for supply missions, where the ability to deliver cargo and extract casualties without the need for a dedicated tug aircraft gave it operational flexibility. The Go 244's unusual twin-boom layout, distinctive engine nacelles, and use of captured French powerplants make it one of the more exotic Luftwaffe transport types and an interesting modelling subject in 1/48 scale.
