The Mistel — "Mistletoe" — was one of the most conceptually extraordinary weapons of the Second World War: an explosive-laden unmanned aircraft, usually a converted bomber, attached beneath a fighter that would guide it to the target before releasing it as a giant guided bomb. The Mistel 1 combined a Junkers Ju 88 loaded with a shaped charge warhead with a Bf 109F mounted on a strut framework above it, the fighter pilot aiming and releasing the combination before pulling away. Used against shipping, bridges, and hardened targets, the Mistel concept was developed into multiple variants and reflected Germany's willingness to pursue unconventional solutions when conventional means were insufficient. A unique and spectacular subject in 1/48 scale.
