The Sd.Kfz. 261 was the long-range radio variant of the eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 231/232/233 heavy armoured car family, fitted with a frame aerial and long-range communications equipment for corps and divisional command use. Sharing the same eight-wheeled all-wheel-drive chassis as the 231 series heavy armoured cars, the 261 had a lower, more compact profile than the 232 and was used as a command and control link between armoured formations and their higher headquarters during operations. An unusual and specialist vehicle subject that appeals to dedicated German armour and communications vehicle enthusiasts.
