Italeri 1/48 Spitfire Mk. XVI e (2646)

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVIe was one of the final and most capable variants of the most famous British fighter of the Second World War — powered by the American-built Packard Merlin 266 engine and typically fitted with the distinctive clipped wingtips that improved roll rate at low altitude for the ground attack and anti-V1 roles in which the late-war Spitfire excelled. The 'e' wing designation indicates the universal wing capable of carrying either two 20mm cannon and two .50 calibre machine guns or a full four-cannon armament, making it one of the most heavily armed Spitfire variants. By 1945 the Mk.XVI was equipping 2nd Tactical Air Force squadrons in North-West Europe, flying ground attack missions against German communications, transport, and troop concentrations in support of the final Allied advance into Germany. At 1/48 scale, Italeri's kit captures the clipped-wing Mk.XVIe with accurate fuselage profile, detailed cockpit, and RAF 2nd TAF marking options.
