Italeri 1/48 Tornado IDS (2648)

The Panavia Tornado IDS (Interdiction/Strike) was the result of a landmark multinational programme that gave the RAF, Luftwaffe, and Italian Air Force a common variable-geometry strike aircraft capable of penetrating Warsaw Pact air defences at low level and high speed to destroy targets deep behind enemy lines. In RAF service the Tornado GR.1 replaced the Vulcan and Buccaneer in the strike role, and it proved its worth in the Gulf War of 1991 when RAF Tornados flew some of the most dangerous low-level missions of the conflict against Iraqi airfields, suffering losses but inflicting serious damage with JP233 runway-denial munitions. The Tornado's swing-wing design — fully swept for high-speed penetration, spread for take-off and low-speed handling — gives it a dramatic, purposeful appearance in any wing configuration.
