The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is the US Navy's primary carrier-based strike fighter — a substantially redesigned evolution of the original McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet, 25% larger, significantly more capable, and able to carry heavier weapons loads over greater ranges. Entering service in 1999, the Super Hornet replaced the F-14 Tomcat in the fleet defence role and became the backbone of US carrier air wings, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria while continually upgraded with advanced radar, electronic warfare systems, and weapons. The E model's enlarged leading edge extensions, revised intakes, and squared-off wingtips distinguish it visually from the legacy Hornet, giving it a more muscular, purposeful appearance. Italeri's 1/72 kit captures the Super Hornet's characteristic features with accurate fuselage lines, folding wing options, and comprehensive US Navy marking options covering multiple squadrons and deployments.
