The Republic F-84F Thunderstreak was the swept-wing evolution of the straight-wing F-84 Thunderjet, and it represented a significant leap forward in performance for the United States Air Force in the early 1950s. Designed to address the F-84E's limitations against the MiG-15 encountered over Korea, the Thunderstreak entered service in 1954 as a capable tactical fighter-bomber, combining transonic speed with a substantial weapons load. It served with the USAF and numerous NATO air arms throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, forming the backbone of Western tactical air power during some of the most tense years of the Cold War.
