The Aero L-29 Delfín in its early configuration covers the initial production aircraft before the refinements introduced on later batches — a subtly different subject for the serious L-29 collector. As the Warsaw Pact’s chosen standard jet trainer, the early L-29 entered service with Czechoslovak and Soviet air forces from 1963, giving a generation of Eastern Bloc military pilots their first experience of jet flying. The clean, straight-wing design with its distinctive belly air intake made the Delfín immediately recognisable, and it remained in frontline training service well into the 1970s.
