The Bristol Beaufighter was one of the most formidable and versatile multi-role aircraft of the Second World War — a heavy twin-engine fighter that excelled as a night fighter, long-range intruder, anti-shipping strike aircraft, and close support platform. The Mk.X was the definitive anti-shipping variant, carrying an 18-inch torpedo under the fuselage alongside its standard battery of four 20mm cannons and six .303 machine guns, and fitted with ASV radar for locating targets at sea. Beaufighter Mk.Xs of RAF Coastal Command devastated Axis shipping in the Mediterranean and off the Norwegian coast, and their combination of range, hitting power, and durability made them one of the most feared aircraft by Axis naval forces in any theatre.
