The Chieftain was Britain's main battle tank from 1966 through the 1990s — a vehicle that prioritised firepower and protection over mobility to a degree unusual even by Cold War standards. Its 120mm rifled gun was the most powerful tank armament in the world when it entered service, capable of penetrating any Soviet armour of its era, and its thick, well-angled hull made it extremely difficult to destroy. The Mk.10 represented a mature, fully developed standard of the Chieftain with improved fire control and engine reliability. Widely exported to Iran and Jordan, the Chieftain saw extensive real-world combat in the Iran-Iraq War.
