The Kübelwagen's service on the Eastern Front was as demanding as anywhere the Wehrmacht operated — the Russian winters, the mud of the rasputitsa, and the vast distances of the Soviet steppe tested every vehicle to its limits. The air-cooled Volkswagen engine proved genuinely advantageous in extreme cold conditions where water-cooled engines froze, and the Kübelwagen's light weight allowed it to keep moving where heavier vehicles bogged down. Meng's 1/35 Eastern Front variant includes markings and detail appropriate to the Russian campaign, making it the ideal companion to any Eastern Front diorama subject. An interesting alternative to the North Africa version (VS-015) for collectors building across theatres.
