USS Lexington (CV-2) was one of America's first fleet carriers and arguably the most operationally significant before the war began. Converted from a battlecruiser hull under the Washington Naval Treaty, the Lady Lex and her sister Saratoga spent the interwar years developing the doctrines and techniques of carrier aviation that would define Pacific warfare. She was lost at the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942 — the first major carrier engagement in history — sunk by torpedo damage after stopping the Japanese invasion fleet heading for Port Moresby. Meng's 1/700 scale capture of CV-2 is a precise, detailed model of a historically pivotal ship. A companion piece to the Warship Builder chibi Lexington for collectors who want both scales.
