The Resurgam — Latin for "I shall rise again" — was one of the earliest mechanically powered submarines in history, built in 1879 by the Reverend George Garrett in Birkenhead. Powered by a steam engine that was fired up on the surface before diving — retaining heat in a large accumulator to drive the vessel submerged — the Resurgam represented a remarkable feat of Victorian engineering ambition, if not entirely successful execution. She sank under tow in Rhyl Bay in February 1880 during an attempted voyage to demonstrate her capabilities to the Royal Navy, taking her revolutionary concept to the seabed. Her wreck was located in 1995 and remains on the seabed as a designated protected monument. MikroMir's 1/144 kit captures this pioneering vessel's distinctive form, offering modellers a piece of genuinely foundational submarine history.
