Operation Wacht am Rhein — the Ardennes offensive of December 1944 — was Germany's last major strategic gamble in the West: a surprise attack through the snowbound forests of Belgium and Luxembourg aimed at splitting the Allied armies and capturing Antwerp. German infantry rode on the outside of tanks through freezing terrain, often without adequate winter clothing, in conditions of extreme cold, poor visibility, and mounting Allied resistance. MiniArt's set captures German tank riders specifically in the Ardennes winter of 1944 — the greatcoats, improvised winter camouflage, and the particular urgency of men riding tanks through a forest offensive that they knew was their army's last chance. An essential companion for any Ardennes armour build.
The last gamble in the snow — German tank riders, Ardennes 1944, in 1/35 scale.
